Recent news

  • 5/20/2019: Check out our recent paper in PNAS documenting how short interval fire erodes the resilience of subalpine lodgepole pine forests. Tree regeneration following short-interval fire was reduced six-fold and above-ground C stocks were reduced 62%, relative to areas that did not reburn.

Winslow D. Hansen, PhD

I am currently an Earth Institute Postdoctoral Fellow working at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University.  My research seeks to understand whether forests will remain resilient to accelerating environmental change, where and why forest resilience may be eroded, and how novel forests will reorganize from the ashes of old systems.
